Traffic policy towards Netflix in other countries?

I have asked @UPC_Ex_Mod by PM to take a look to this thread in order to provide some information.

In any case, I did some additional tests, including the acess to Netflix through a VPN tunnel (US) and netflix works perfectly so I have the suspicious that Cablecome is applying some traffic throttling for non CH Netflix content.

I would be surprise that is Netflix who is applying the traffic shapping.

Hi @cic00,

I heard some weeks ago that Netflix was trying to block or to slow the connections using a VPN or DNS service. I don’t know if Netflix did it or not, but your issue is maybe related to that. As the owners of UPC Cablecom (Liberty Global) are american, they maybe made a deal with Netflix which is also an american company. Who knows ?

It is better to ask @Anina, @UPC_Ex_Mod and the others moderators about the traffic shapping.

thanks for your reply. Yes, I am trying to access Netflix (US and other) via DNS services like Unotelly and TVUnblock in order to avoid the geolocalisation filters. This was working perfectly fine up to 6 weeks ago or some.

The tests I have done looks through different DNS providers looks like something is going on in Cablecom network..

Not sure if they do not want customer to access the content from other countries and enforce only swiss content, but it looks like this is the case.

If I sum up, you are trying to have access to Netflix US (or others) with a VPN/DNS ? (or something like that).

I haven’t heard any information about traffic shapping with Cablecom.
