New to Fibre and question and home coverage issue

Hi everyone,

I have now received the Fiber at home and changed with the new modem. I noticed unfortuneatly that even with a newer Wifi i still miss some spot due to the fact that my router is inside the distribution closet (OTO plugin in the closet…)

So i did a scan of my home to check the coverage.

My issue is on the living room (red part) where i lose wifi connection often. I have tried a repeter for netgear but the quality is not good. It disconnect or it reduce the speed of the wifi quite significant. The version with a repater has a better coverage but a lot less stability.

I turned my Netgear as access point at the moment with a separate SSID, but I would like to have everything under 1 SSID that can handle 4800mb. if i place it into the middle of my appartment.

What would be your recommendation ? Basically my wifi is almost useless since it's inside the metal closet and a repeater bring too much unstability to the wifi that break my streaming.

You have 2 options.

Option 1: Rent one or more WiFi Extender from Sunrise. You can use a wired connection to hook up the WiFi Extender. It will come with additional monthly costs. Make sure you'll get the Extender and not the Pod.

Option 2: Turn off the WiFi on the Connect Box 3 FIBRE and get a WiFi Mesh-System, you'll find lots of systems from a wide variety of vendors. You could get WiFi-access points and create your own Mesh-System. It's a one time purchase without additional monthly costs.

I’ve checked the specs if the extender and I see that LAN port are 1 GBPS.

Does it mean if i plug the Ethernet cable and turn it to wifi extender, my speed will go from 800mb near the box (if I put literally my head in the closet) to 100mb ?

Both options have some downpoints.

Using a Sunrise WiFi Extender shouldn't reduce the WiFi-speed to 100Mbit/s. It will share the same WiFi as the Connect Box does.

Xydocq I have the QOQA XL subscription for 10gbps.

My hardware are not compatible to more than wifi 5 I think (maybe 6 with the new iPhone of my wife)

My goal is really simple. I would like to be around 1000mbps (that would be awesome) from the living to the rooms to have at least A green to blue coverage (~ 30 db to 50db) on the most difficult place. Workplace and tv spot use Ethernet. But streaming music or videos from mobile is currently facing some issue.

1 central point of wifi outside the closet seems to be the better solution for stability and turning off the box wifi. Can it be done with the extender? Or can I achieve that with the option 2?

That would be Option 2 in my opinion.

You can use your Netgear Router to test it out. Turn of the WiFi on the Connect Box and move the Router next to the Connect Box.

To test the WiFi-Signal, I recommend using WiFiman by Ubiquiti. You can also download the app from google playstore or iOS app store.
