(DNS?) Issue with "auto proxy discovery" on Mac

Hi,

Disabling “auto proxy discovery” also solved my problem for now.

Originally I made a separate post about Apple Music taking forever to load songs ever since we upgraded to the Connect Box 3 HFC. But the issues described above sounded similar and the fix worked. Leaving details here if other people also face issues with Apple Music.

Details: I believe it is a router bug because it only happens when connected to the router (never when I take my laptop elsewhere) and the problem disappears when I connect to a VPN. I do not have a company network proxy at home.

Xydocq thanks for confirming the issue, while I love computer science and networking, the times where I engineered my home network with mail server, fire wall, etc. etc. are over. I am now at the plug-and-play stage and this is what I can expect from a provider like sunrise. Another (Joelhasissues) also confirmed the issue and I am quite convinced that Sunrise will be able to find the issue (I am quite bullish on the DNS issue thesis).

my setup is as you describe. I once tried to configure the netgear router to have one single network, but either the netgear did not like it or the connectbox did not support that setup in a stable way. (it worked for a while, then I had to restart the netgear).

so I switched back to two separate networks, which is a bid sad, but a small inconvenience.

Daniele_Sunrise So I assumed you are referring to the “auto proxy discovery” setting. I tested it and have the following findings:

if I enable it and try to go to a newly opened website, the website is NOT loaded => still fails. (looks like DNS lookup is still broken then)
if I disable it and go to the newly opened website, the website is loaded => as expected.
if I enable it then again and go to the same website, the website is loaded (DNS likely cached now). => this was not the case before.

I would say, while this does not solve the initial problem, it seems to be still have fixed something likely related to DNS caching (that probably also helps users unrelated to the “auto proxy configuration”
