Good evening,
I’ve been having many issues with my internet connection during last year where I sometimes had around 30% of packet loss, which is very noticeable in online games and voice chats.
The issue is that it can be fine for a few months, and then it happens consecutively every day during one or more weeks, for multiple hours.
I called support a few times but they were never able to detect any problems (it seems they mostly tested my download speed, which is actually good and working fine).
I don’t think it is an issue with my computer, because I did further testing using my laptop and phone (over LAN and WiFi) and the packet loss happens at the same time on all devices.
What is weird is that for the packet loss issue, it was only towards some specific IP addresses (but I don’t think it was a server issue, because it worked fine for my friends and it affected many unrelated services).
Now, a similar issue has been affecting me for the last 2 weeks, but instead of packet loss, the packets have bursts of very high latency (often with an average jitter of 350ms multiple times per minutes) and it affects all services this time.
The self test of the connect box detects some issues but it does not seem to provide any details beside a warning next to “Checking Ethernet Connections” and sometimes next to “Checking WiFi Connections” (even checking the request in dev tools doesn’t seem to help 😦). I’ve obviously tried to reboot it and let it cool down (it’s in an open space though) but it does not seem to change anything.
So yeah, I am not sure what I can do on my side. I don’t really want to switch to ADSL because the speed would be halved and the sockets are located at inconvenient places, but maybe some networking wizard here has an idea of what is happening ?
Cheers and thanks!
