Getting upgraded to fiber (from copper) soon, what hardware to get 2.5gbit?

I currently have copper with Sunrise, using a Connect Box 3, and I set the box in Bridge mode, and use my Ubiquiti Cloud Gateway Ultra as router.

All is fine as my current connection is 1gbit, but in september I will get fiber (2.5gbit) and i would like to fully utilize it.

First of all, I will upgrade from the Cloud Gateway Ultra to the Max, as the latter supports both 2.5gbit WAN and has 2.5gbit LAN ports,

my question is, from what I’m reading, the new fiber router that Sunrise will send me once I get fiber, won’t allow to be set in Bridge mode, is this correct?
Is the only way now to set it up with DMZ, and then use my Gateway Max as router?

Are there any solutions to allow us, with a fiber connection, to not use the Sunrise router? if so, any hardware from Ubiquiti to achieve this?

AJ1989 Welcome to the community!

It is correct that the Fibre Modem cannot be set to bridge mode and we recommend DMZ mode.

I don’t have another solution, but maybe the community does?

I would like to ask you, if between DMZ and bridge mode are there any differences performance wise? As long as I set everything up correctly, forwarding everything to my Ubiquiti router, I will achieve the same performances as I would with the bridge mode, without having double nat?

Finally, is there a unique router model for every 2.5gbit customer, or you offer different models? I would like to be able to completely disable WiFi from the sunrise fibre router that I will receive, so in case there are multiple models, I want to make sure to get one that has this setting!

No, you will have the same performance in bridge mode as well as in router mode or DMZ mode.

This can be switched off in the admin interface so that you can set up your own MESH system.

i see there are 2 fiber modems, the connect 3 box fiber and the sunrise internet box fiber.

Do both allow DMZ and turning WiFi off completely?

AJ1989 Yes, you can do this with both modems. With the Internet Fiber Box you have more settings than with the CB3.

AJ1989 Were you able to setup the Cloud Gateway Max together with Internet Box Fiber? Do you recommend the setup or have any tips? What did you choose for alternative WiFi solution if you’ve turned off the one from the Internet Box Fiber?

I’m looking into adding a CGM as well and would be very interested in your experience, thanks!
