If you have a smart TV, you could try installing the Sunrise TV app and using that.

It didn’t work well enough for me (doing anything involved lots of scrolling because it’s just a TV app - there’s no remote button for things like Guide, Recordings etc.) but for simple stuff it may do the job for you, and you can probably program the Sofataton via a macro to turn on the TV, select and open the app and so forth.

Good point, I’ll try that, but as you say, this is probably not as convenient or reliable as the direct HDMI connection to the TV + won’t work for the video-projector.

Is your link still correct ? (ie. it leads to a Subrise Box - but you talk about an old UOC model)

What is the exact type of your IR-only UPC-Box ?

Do you know if it is still available ?

Yes, my link above still seems to point to the correct box. It’s branded Sunrise now, but I got it before the change-over.

The difference is that mine isn’t the IP box; it still needs to be connected to the wall socket and not just the modem/router. I think they’re still given out if you have (like me) a non-fibre connection.

It’s not “IR-only” as it still uses a UPC/Sunrise bluetooth remote, but it has a sensor for receiving IR commands and most of the commands are available.

One important question: does this box that you mentioned, allow “channel up / channel down” signals via infrared as well?

(since the channel switching buttons are the only ones that do not work with IR for the model that I have - they seem to be bluetooth only on my box).

So could you check the channel switching buttons to be IR as well ?

Remains the question if I can use your box also for a house that has fibre already?

P.S. My Box looks exactly like your link shows, except that it has two more buttons (plus/minus) to the left of the UPC logo. So mine is also older and still UPC-branded as well.

Mine also has the + and - buttons, so I’m sure we have the same box. You say that IR commands do work on your box apart from ch+ ch-?

Yes, they work on mine. I don’t use the bluetooth remote at all. The only thing I can’t do with IR is the “···” button which brings up some language options.

Instead I have to press “info” then pick the relevant option (e.g. language, subtitles) from the menu. Or press “enter” twice then select Language Options.

Are you using the Logitech Harmony? If so, the commands are ChannelUp and ChannelDown. Working fine.

yes, I am using Harmony.

Could you please tell me the exact type you entered in Harmony-devices ?

Was it UPC or Sunrise ?

If UPC, which device type did you sync in Harmony? (Gerätemodellnummer?)

I guess channelUp/Down are then special cmds in the little Harmony-window (I tried the channel-up/down buttons on the Harmony - and they dont work)…or I have the wrong device-type.

I have the “companion” remote which comes with a hub and an iPhone app.

if yours is similar you can use the app to go into the “Devices” tab and try the ch+/- there. If it works, then you’ll need to go into the “customise remote” section by editing the relevant activity and change the button assignments which could have gotten messed up.

I’ll post which device I have my UPC box configured as later, once I’m back where my remote is!

It calls itself “UPC Mediabox” once installed, but calls itself “UPC DVR” when you search for the device and add it.

I’ve just added a duplicate device, and it controls my box perfectly. If yours still doesn’t work with ch+/- then maybe try a reset of your TV box.

Pn the Harmony it seems to name somewhat differently:

For the manufacturer I entered “UPC” (because “Sunrise” does not really make sense I think).

As fir the device-type (Gerätemodellnummer), I have entered “DVR” (because UPC DVR as you mention does not give me any choices).

I get the following device-type choices suggested:

UPC DVR V3
UPC DVR7111
MediaCom DVR

Which one do I need ?

I do all this for someone else and I will need to try somewhere first to know if it works. Or maybe you can confirm which is the correct DVR to pick on Harmony.

I didn’t get offered any choice.

I’ve also just tried typing almost anything - I put “UPC” then “box” and it immediately installed “UPC DVR” which it then calls “UPC Mediabox” when I go to edit it post-install.

So I’m not being offered any choices for some reason. I can only recommend you install all three of them and find the one which works. Delete the two others afterwards.

It’s not possible. The new IPTV boxes have no IR.

It uses Bluetooth for its own remote, but won’t pair with any others.

Yes you are right and I know that the IPTV box is only bluetooth, but the Harmony Elite is able to connect with IR, bluetooth and Wifi.
