Since last February, it is not possible for me to have a working internet connection when I use Torrent software.
My Modem is set up in bridge mode, with an ASUS router (RT-AC88U). All the following functions inside the ASUS router are disabled: AiProtection, Traffic Analyzer, Web History, Adaptive QoS, Game Boost, Web & Apps Filter, Bandbreitenüberwachung, Mobile Game Mode. The computers connected to internet are all using a cable LAN (no WiFi).
The internet speed of my subscription (600 Mbit/s download and 60 Mbit/s upload) is correctly reported and can be fully reached when using the cnlab or Ookla speedtest software (when no torrent software is running), but as soon as I open a torrent program and a download is active, the speed goes down to a few hundreds of kbit/s, which obviously immediately affects all the other applications requiring a decent internet speed (whatsapp, skype, …). No matter if I use Torrrent on my PC, a different laptop or even smartphone, the result is always the same.
The configuration of my Torrent software on my PC is not that ‘heavy’ but even if I reduce it, I don’t see any improvements:
It is very annoying, as I have to immediately stop any torrent downloads, in order to get back the internet connection speed.
This problem is well known by UPC/Sunrise, as reported in the discussion on this community with the subject ‘Bremst UPC / Sunrise neuerdings Torrent ?’.
I called the UPC technical support, trying to see how they could help me fixing the problem, and I spoke with 3 different persons, explaining to all of them that it is a problem already mentioned in the community, and that it was solved with the help of Daniele_Sunrise by replacing the UPC ConnectBox with a GigaConnect Box. I had 3 very different outcome: in one case the guy told me to call the 0800 900 210 and that they would for sure be able to help me by either replacing the ConnectBox or upgrading to a GigaConnect Box. When calling the above number, I was redirected (sadly) again to a person from technical support whose explanations were disappointing: Torrent is not compatible with our products, and that I had to upgrade my speed (doubling the monthly cost of my subscription) if I wanted to upgrade to a GigaConnect Box. Not nice to a customer that has been with UPC for 10 years or more….
All I want is to be able to use the speed of my subscription without the internet connection speed being choked as soon as I use a Torrent program.
I hope that somebody on the community can help me how to proceed in order to fix the problem.
Thanks.
