mayorrafter FYI, Sunrise don’t talk much about the DMZ solution. but yes, DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) is an alternative to bridge mode that can also help to avoid double NAT issues.
When you enable DMZ on your router, you designate a single device on your network as the DMZ host, which is exposed directly to the internet without any NAT translation. This effectively bypasses the router’s firewall and allows the designated device to receive all incoming traffic, including traffic intended for other devices on your network.
By designating a device as the DMZ host, you can effectively route all traffic to that device, bypassing the NAT performed by the router. This can be a useful alternative to bridge mode which if you speak with the Google support team they will tell you to implement.
Sunrise may not say they recommend it because seemingly enabling DMZ can increase the security risk of the designated device (Google WiFi / Google Nest WiFi), as it’s now directly exposed to the internet. Obviously the security of the Google devices is very high and constantly auto updates with firmware updates so I don’t think an issue.
