We’ve changed from a UPC box, and everything has got immeasurably worse. We had a cable connection with the UPC box (coaxial) , but now we have a wifi connection, because the router is with the computer at the other end of the house. So, we have eternal bandwidth moans, refusal to recognise a signal at all (even though we use as signal reinforcer and the laptop works fine with it), and even demands for SSID and password, which we have already supplied! The temptation to compost the thing and look for a better provider is becoming overwhelming…

Hello, Luka, the short answer appears to be, no. I was asked to put the Sunrise wi-fi app on my phone. This was worse than useless, as it just went round and round in the circle create a password - log into your Sunrise account - create a password - log into your Sunrise account…

Why do you have to make things more difficult?

So I tried without the app, and the three Pods seems to do no better a job than did our old Fritz wifi extender. Really unsatisfactory. Unless this app, if/when it decides to work, can make a difference. From the record so far, I’m not optimistic.

appears to be, yes. It would seem to apply to the entire Sunrise TV system. Very depressing.

The pods now seem to work OK, but they are not as good as hoped - we still get pauses in transmission. Now this might well be simply a product of our very unsatisfactory home setup, with the modem in the basement at one end of the house and the TV one floor up at the other, literally as far apart as it’s possible to put them . As the computer (wired directly to the modem), NEVER suffers from these problems, I’m beginning to wonder whether a separate modem for the TV is required (there’s a telephone socket right beside the TV).

Thanks, Pato, that’s very useful. Also, it’s precisely the answer I’d hoped not to hear! The Mrs has a pathological hatred of “guys” coming to do things at the house, and as this, given the nature of the house, would represent a major “guy” intrusion, I suspect that she’d rather do without TV reception.

It’s a shame that you’ve given up on the old coaxial cable boxes, as these worked perfectly well. It seems that new technology often has the tendency to make things worse.

Sunrise still has coax boxes, for the customers who can’t have a fiber connect. Although it’s just part of the channels with coax, most will be streamed through the internet, as this utilizes less frequency on the cable for the same bandwidth.
In other words, Sunrise can provide more internet / tv channels through IP (internet) as they can through DVB-C over cable.

But we don’t have fibre anyway! We have a wire from a telegraph pole to the house. And, to the best of my knowledge, fibre hasn’t even reached Hölstein yet.

Sorry, Pato, but what do you mean? We know what optical fibre looks like (one of our daughters has it in her apartment in Zürich), and that we don’t have. We have the same bog-standard analogue-type telephone line that we’ve always had. We have nothing that looks like this:

With DSL the same options/restrictions in regards to Sunrise products exist, as with Fiber.
I just don’t understand why you got the small square TV box. That one you should only get with a Fiber or DSL line. If you don’t have fiber, then you either have Coax (where you get a TV box that requires both, Coax and Internet), or you have DSL, where you get the Internet-Only small square box. Typically when moving from UPC to Sunrise, you never get the DSL option, as this is the worst of the three technologies.
If you still have a Connect Box (for Coax) for Internet, then you could put it in the middle of the two important rooms (PC and TV) and put in each of the other two one of the Connect Pods. That might provide a well enough signal for both.

Preferably you install a LAN cable, that’s always the best solution.

When I changed from UPC TV to Sunrise TV, this small square thing is what came with the kit, plus a Sunrise internet box identical to the one we already had. The UPC box we replaced used a coax cable. The fact that a Sunrise coax box is available is news to me. So, how do I get one of these coax Sunrise boxes? (Please don’t send me to the Sunrise advice lines, as these appear to outsourced to India or somewhere like that, and while they’re very nice and polite, they are full of often dramatically conflicting information).
