I just recently moved to sunrise internet and I’ve been trying to get Ipv6 set up. I was reading some posts here and my understanding is that sunrise does not support ipv4 and ipv6. So does this mean that the modem will have to be set up to either one?

`my internet box is: AX7501-B0

How can I do that?

It is correct that you can only have either IPv6 or IPv4. What would you like to have that we can connect to you? Please send us your customer number, MAC address of the modem, address and date of birth via private message.

Thanks a lot for your quick response.

Are there any problems switching to Ipv6? I’ve seen some users here requesting to change back to Ipv4. I’ve always been used to having dual stack so not sure about the implications of going all ipv6.

ramgom If you don’t have any devices that need to be controlled from outside your house, you can leave your modem on IPv6. If you use webcams, NAS and other devices, we recommend IPv4.

Maybe I’m mistaken but I thought the Ipv6 IP address will be assigned by the provider DHCP and it will be accessible from the outside if firewall permits.

ramgom This is correct, but:

- you have deactivated the DHCP of the modem
- your device now takes over the DHCP function
- the modem has an IPv4 address and your device now takes over the delivery of internal IPs to your devices

Exactly here is somewhere with you IPv6 for internal IPs activated, or you have internally a dual stack running and the devices, which communicate with IPv6 (internal) get an Ipv6 IP.

Test:
Switch on the DHCP server of the modem as a test. What IP internal addresses are distributed?

Right now the DHCP server on my modem is on and of course

I’m getting only IPv4 when I turn on Ipv6 I get no internet connection if disable Ipv4 in my device

That’s my current setup in my modem Ipv6 is switch off

IPv6 doesn’t work through DHCP (normally), but through another protocol. I’m not sure how the internet box handles the SLAAC or RA if it’s in Modem/Bridge mode, but typically the router gets an /64 range assigned through the function “prefix delegation” and then offers out of this range a valid address (starting with 2001🙂 to the clients.

pato it looks like they have to configure my modem to use ipv6 on their end so nothing I can do for now until it is switched to ipv6

You should be able to, internally in your network with its assigned IPv4 address.
