UPC
TV Box

Hi,

I have this setup at home:

UPC TV box -> HDMI -> TV -> (audio output via optical cable) -> audio amplifier (NAD D3020). The TV is configured to use only the external audio (I.e.: not the built-in speakers).

What I want to achieve is that when I switch the UPC TV box on with the red button on its remote control is that not only the TV switches on, but also the amplifier switches on and goes on that input source, so that one button switches the entire system on. And obviously the same when I switch off.

Currently instead, I need to separately switch the amplifier on/off, which is not good. A possible reason, if I understand things correctly is that the UPC TV box remote control has two power buttons:

  • The white one is for the TV only and it operates as an infrared signal
  • The red one is for the UPC TV box and it operates via radio (Bluetooth) and HDMI-CEC (to switch the TV on)

However, the audio amplifier can receive the remote signal only via infrared. Maybe, the remote control red power button shold be able to also operate as infrared…

Is it possible to achieve what I want?

ATE Unfortunately I can’t find anything in the manual about HDMI CEC and if your device supports it. What happens if you manually search your DC3020 as TV Device or Sound Device via TV menu? Is it found and recognized as a TV / sound system?

      Daniele_Sunrise thanks for you reply.

Please let me clarify my setup: between the TV and the amplifier there is no HDMI connection. There cannot be: the amplifier does not have a HDMI port. So, no HDMI-CEC switch-on/off trigger signal is possible.

The connection between the TV and the amplifier is optical (TOSLINK), just digital audio. Yet, this amplifier could be capable to auto switch itself on, as it has infrared learning capabilities (like the UPC TV box) for Switch on/off and Volume up/down, and it also has “Auto Sense” (which strangey is not in the German language manual, but it is documented in the English one **).

As I have tried all I could on the amplifier settings, my question perhaps is if there is a setting on the UPC TV box that could make the red Power button on the remote control work as an infrared command and not as a radio command. If it was an infrared command, it would reach the amplifier and it would switch it on.

      Or maybe some other setting/configuration…

ATE Thank you for the details of your request.

The button cannot be programmed. Via TV Box Menu, you could try to change the TV Setup and configure your device manually. If it is found, the infrared signal of the TV Box remote control will be adjusted to your device. You can find a quick guide here.
