I’m currently linving in an 100m2 apartment where i have this closet at the entrance. As you can see, the DSL port entry is there and there is a switch to goes to several rooms. Ethernet here is definitely not an issue. It’s working fine, but i can’t say the same for the wifi. Since the port is inside the closet, i have no choice but to put my modem in the closet. My modem fit in the hole below (i tried to put it above my Synology but hat this level it doesn’t change much).

My appartement is 110m2 so i dont need much, but i do have a spot where i lose connection due to the signal behind too weak.

The testing app advise to use their Smart wifi solution but :

Important: The Smart WiFi Extenders are not compatible with Fritzbox

My box is a Fritzbox..

I tested an extender, but since the source of the signal is weak, i can’t make it work properly.

I can’t find Bridge mode on the modem to eventually try to plug another modem from an ethernet port in my living room.

What could i do from there ? My goal is to have a better latency over a high speed wifi. I don’t mind losing a bit of my 200mb if my latency stays low.

    hello Nielle

It is possible to move the box outside of the closet. But it’s not something that can be just done. You would need to change the sockets in the closet and the one where the FritzBox should be placed. You will also need a second socket by the FritzBox to run a network cable back into the closet and add a switch inside the closet to connect the other outlets.

It might be much easier to leave the FritzBox inside the closet and use a WiFi-Mesh system or a single WiFi-Access point. Since you use a FritzBox you might want to look into something like the Fritz!Repeater 3000 AX. You could use it as an extension to the WLAN of the FritzBox. Please keep in mind, this isn’t a recommendation. You’ll have to do your own research and decide what’s best to fit your needs.

Xydocq I have honestly not much of a clue since Sunrise is highly restrictive on what we can put outside Sunrise devices

I can’t see changing this DSL port since I’m only renting the place. I’ve heard some good things about Unifi mesh system eventually and I found something like this on the form https://community.sunrise.ch/d/38943-ubiquiti-cloud-gateway-ultra-and-sunrise-fibre-box-3

But I don’t know from where to start honestly there.

this is the setup guide for the Fritz!Repeater

Personally I wouldn’t go with Unifi. Ubiquiti had a much smaller line called Amplifi, not sure if they still have it. They were easy to install and everything did run on an app.

Xydocq So basically i can just add this repeater through the LAN cable in the living room and to recast my WiFI signal from there.. and it create a meshes system with the fritzbox out of the box?

This product look a bit of what i’m looking for https://amplifi.com/gamers-edition. but it seems to be a bit of a niche product so I’m totally concerned about it.

Nielle it create a meshes system with the fritzbox out of the box?

            according to the instructions, yes.

I was using Amplifi Instant. The promise they make, to be ready within 2 minutes, is correct. Even it might take another 5 minutes to adjust some settings. It is very easy to handle and offers stable WLAN. The “Gaming” tag, might be mainly for advertisement.

Xydocq I found this on the Swisscom page. Would it be possible to simply plug the dsl to the Ethernet port snd take it over in the living room?

                Nielle

If the DSL jack is RJ45, that’s possible.

You will need another cable to run back to the cabinet and a switch to connect the other cables running from the cabinet to the outlets and the NAS.

Xydocq I have 2 Ethernet port in the living room, so that would not be an issue. I have no clue for the DSL if it’s an RJ45, when I looked at it, it felt smaller

Nielle you could try to plug in the DSL cable into an empty LAN outlet. If it just slides in without any pressure you should be fine.
Or you compare the plugs by holding them next to each other. If they have the same with both should be RJ45 if the DSL plug is not as wide it might be a RJ11.

Usually the DSL cable only has 4 wires while a LAN cable has 8.
