Sunrise
Connect Box 3 DSL

As the connect Box comes with limited functionality, I would like to use my own modem. As there already is a DSL receiver / modem inbetween the Connect Box 3, I was wondering if I could plug my router directly into the receiver as I have done previously with other providers.

If so is there any particular settings DHCP settings or WAN settings I need to configure.

Thank you

Martin

    hello mbrown992

The DSL receiver will work with the Connect Box 3 HFC. It will not work with a different router.

From what I know, Sunrise will allow the use of your own DSL-router like a Fritz!Box also a third party DSL bridge with your own router might work.

I am not able to confirm this 100% myself, I am on HFC (coax cable). But a lot of people on the forum (german part) are reporting on successfully using different DSL-modems.

To be honest that doesnt make much sense considering the Router provided does not actually connect to the internet but has specific WAN options set (static IP, MAC address). These can be changed on any openwrt router.

The Connect Box is very limited and I cannot configure anything. I am fighting to seperate the 5GHz bandwidth which is not working correctly. I have my asus router in Repeater mode but it keeps blocking internet after X hours of use.

Very bad router which I would like to change

I don’t have a DSL connection. So I might have been wrong.

You sure could go and try if it will work. The only change to the third party router might be the MAC address. I guess the connection type should be DHCP, as it is when one uses their own router behind a Connect Box 3 HFC.

one problem you could run into might be the phone, given you have a landline phone.

Thanks I will try this this morning and will update you. I was wondering if there are any other specific options apart from normal MAC, MTU settings and static IP assignment / DNS. Usually I do not go with Auto IP. I only have the internet service so Phone / TV should not be an issue

Seems I am missing some VLAN settings or something similar. I get Connection via WAN but no Internet access. Or it is PPOE Authentication (which should be in the DSL receiver my understanding). I will see if I can connect to the DSL receiver perhaps and see if I can connect to the admin GUI

Speaking with support they mentioned that they can amend / tweak settings to enable bridge mode. Once this is done hopefully (not on the Box3) I can provide an update next week. Otherwise as suspected VLAN is probably at fault

Hi Martin, Yes, you should be able to plug your router directly into the receiver, just like with other providers. Make sure the router is set to obtain an IP address automatically via DHCP. You may need to disable the Connect Box’s router functionality and configure your router with the correct WAN settings (PPPoE or DHCP, depending on your provider). Good luck!
