Moving OTO box/Passing Ethernet cable

I Got fiber optic installed in our apartment when we switched plans back in October of last year. The building had fiber but it was not installed inside of the apartment, so some technicians came and pulled the fiber cable inside of the wall from the main cable box in the floor hall´to the old telephone port in the living room, installing an OTO fiber box and plugging the internet box there. I asked if I could have access to the same OTO box in replacement of the old telephone port in my room too, but they informed me that I needed approval from the landlord first in order to modify the ports.

A few months passed, and I have now obtained approval from the landlord to perform such modification. However, I was informed by Sunrise Customer Support and store personnel that they didnt provide these services. Is my only option to ask for a private technician to do this? what is needed is to continue to pass the cable through the wall until it reaches the plug in my room, or to pass an ethernet cable through the wall to connect to the router in the living room. Anyone has any feedback on this? Thank you in advance.

You are completely right. Sunrise only pays for the very first basic installation from the building basement up to one single main OTO box inside your apartment. To my knowledge, any further internal adjustments, moving the OTO box to another room, or pulling ethernet cables through the walls are then already private modifications.

Sunrise does not offer in-house electricians for these custom adjustments. This might only be possible for a fee, but I am not entirely sure about that. I do think you should hire a private electrician or an authorized network technician for something like this.

If you just need a stable connection in your room, pulling a standard Cat6a or Cat7 ethernet cable from the living room router through the existing wall pipes to your room is already the best and most robust solution.

Alternatively, a Sunrise repeater would also work, which however causes monthly costs. Or you can buy a third-party device yourself. It will be compatible, but it won’t be directly integrated into the Smart WiFi mesh system of the Connect Box 3. Powerline adapters would also be an alternative, although I am no fan of them at all since they are often sources of interference and do not always work.

Cosmo24 Thank you so much for the reply. Unfortunately I was starting to suspect that that was going to be the only solution. I imagine the technicians that came where actually private contractors that were hired just for the installation, paid by Sunrise. I’ll try to look for the best alternative in that case.

You’re very welcome! You are right. Those technicians were indeed third-party contractors paid by Sunrise for that initial installation.
