Remote play on WiFi not working - Playstation Portal

Hi,

I have a PS5 setup for remote play in another location. I am trying to connect to it via remote play with my PS Portal, but unfortunately the Portal cannot connect to it no matter what. There are no issues with the PS5 setup and the Portal can correctly connect via mobile data with no issues. I have also tried other non-Sunrise WiFi at other houses and the Portal again works fine. However, with the home Sunrise WiFi it will not connect.

I have tried all tips I have found on the internet to try and resolve the issue but no luck. I thought the issue may be with the Connect Box 1 router I have so I bought a Deco X10 and tried using that as my main router and turning the UPC box into bridge mode. I have also tried port forwarding. Unfortunately these still do not solve the issue.

I have seen some people online suggesting that the issue may be due to my internet connection being CGNAT, so perhaps some setting on the Sunrise side is preventing remote play via the Portal?

MM9 As you’re using Bridge mode, could you please log in to My Sunrise and then click on your internet product? You’ll find Surf Protect under Options. Please disable this option, as it may be causing the issue.

MM9 Unfortunately, I can’t see anything because you have Bridge mode enabled.

Let’s take an example:
suppose your PlayStation console has the IP address 192.168.1.10. Have the necessary ports been opened for this IP address for in and outgoing traffic?

Maybe I have done the port forwarding incorrectly? I have attached the screenshots below of what I have done for the ports in the Deco app. Please let me know if I have made any mistakes. I can also disable Bridge mode if that would be more helpful.

Daniele_Sunrise Hi Daniele, I have disabled Bridge mode on the router. Are you able to now see from your side what might be causing the issue?

MM9 The port forwarding settings are correct. The only thing that’s wrong is the internal IP address 192.168.68.51. It looks like that’s your mobile phone’s internal IP address.

Could you please remove the IP 192.168.68.51 from the port forwarding settings and replace it with your PlayStation’s internal IP? After that, you can re-enable bridge mode and test it.

Daniele_Sunrise Hi Daniele, since I disabled Bridge Mode and turned the UPC router into the main router again, the IP address of the PS Portal changed. So, I also did the port forwarding on the UPC router in line with what the new IP address of the portal is showing. Please see the screenshots below and let me know if I have done this correctly? I have kept the UPC router as the main router since I changed it back.

MM9 Is the IP address 192.168.0.218 a Sony smartphone? Where exactly is the PlayStation connected, since I don’t see it on the modem? The ports need to be opened where the PlayStation 5 is connected to the internet. You don’t need to open any ports at your home if the PlayStation 5 isn’t on the same network.

Daniele_Sunrise Hi Daniele, the IP address 192.168.0.218 is for the PlayStation Portal. The PlayStation 5 is not on the same network, it is in a different city.

The setup with the PlayStation 5 is all OK and there are no issues on the network where the PlayStation 5 is located. I know this because remote play works fine on the PlayStation Portal when I connect from 5G mobile phone data via my Salt simcard. But when I try to connect the PlayStation Portal to the PlayStation 5 on my Sunrise WiFi network it no longer works. If I disconnect from WiFi and use Salt 5G it works fine again, then switch back to Sunrise WiFi and it stops working.

MM9 Unfortunately, the only solution I have is to open the necessary ports on the router where the PS5 is connected.

Here and here are some guides that recommend the same thing I do.

So, my advice would be as follows:
- Delete all port forwarding rules you’ve set up on the Sunrise modem
- Open the specified ports on the router where the PS5 is connected
- Test it and play your games
