Lost e-mails in inbox

All my email disappeared yesterday from inbox for unknown reason. They were not deleted or moved to another folder. There is no filter. Sent e-mails are still present. Can Sunrise restore them?

Thanks I called but the support didn’t support and blamed for having deleted all my e-mails :-( I don’t know how I could have selected all 5 giga of e-mails at once, delete and go in my trash to delete them again, no way. It was definitely deleted by Sunrise and they don’t take responsibility and don’t even offer to back them up for, they are on their server, I know :-(

how do you access your e-mails? web or mail-client?

Both, on my Iphone on mail app and on web browser on a PC. I was on the PC with the Perplexity browser when the e-mails disappeared. I checked as well on safari but to no avail

Is it a Windows PC?

Maybe you could try to restore the PC to an older date. Make sure the PC doesn’t connect to the internet when you restore the computer. There might be a local file with most of your e-mails on it.

Unfortunately I can’t restore my PC as it is a company PC. I search for a local file but I doubt there is as it would be more than 4 giga big. I’ll try again Sunrise support and ask to open a ticket with their technical support, let’s see. Thanks for your help

I assume this is IMAP and not POP3.

Ask your company to check their backups - they should have some system for automatically backing up files, although if you were using only webmail (i.e. not a locally installed mail client) then the mails would never be downloaded to your computer anyway.

Is your mobile definitely showing nothing in the inbox or trash? Sometimes a mis-configuration can mean deleted mails end up in a local folder (maybe called Trash, or Bin, or Deleted) and not the “official” trash folder, so check if you have any folders either visible on webmail or on your phone that might have the missing files.

I’ve never used an AI browser, but I suppose there’s also the possibility that Perplexity decided to delete them for you …

Yep, IMAP and no back-up. I checked my Iphone Mail app but nothing either. At least I didn’t loose the sent e-mail. Lessons learned, I will go for POP3.

Check all folders on your iPhone, and also check the settings for the deleted mailbox in case it’s mis-configured and sending them to a local “deleted” folder instead of the correct one on the server.

POP3 is slowly going out of date. It’s designed to download all mails and (unless configured otherwise) delete them from the server once downloaded. So, if it was a webmail accident which deleted your mails, note that webmail is a direct connection to your mail server and doesn’t use IMAP or POP3.
