My fiber connection was activated today and I got home to “configure” the CB3… basically, putting all my network infrastructure in the DMZ.
As expected from reading comments in this forum, things kind of work, until they don’t. For some reason inexplicable to me, I still need to manually forward ports for services to be visible from the outside. Not exactly a replacement for the missing bridge mode and not even exactly a DMZ…
I immediately ordered an XGS-PON stick in the hope that I will be capable of getting it to work. My fiber optics network belongs to a regional provider. They have a partnership with Sunrise but the network also works with Salt (and they are negotiating with Swisscom). I should have access to init7 by the end of the year or beginning of next year, if all goes well. But this also means that this is no “typical” network. No idea what the VLAN is or what the authentication method will be…
So, in the meantime, I will try to get that stick to work. I had to spend some cash for the stick and a switch since my router does not provide an SFP+ port. I would have gladly payed Sunrise the same amount for a proper modem that would let me use a bridge mode. Why do they refuse to provide this to the not so average user????
Sorry about the rant… not a useful post nor a question. But I felt I needed to vent.
