Hello @Daniele_Sunrise ,
it’s not the same. In your URL, you have no domain, so the host cannot find this host in any DNS.
I use public cloudflare DNS where I have configured my public domain MYDOM.cz. I want then resolve myhomepc.MYDOM.cz or myworkpc.vpn.MYDOM.cz. Which works everywhere else except my home network.
Other case is to use nip.io zone. If I try DNS resolution on my smartphone over mobile data:
- If I resolve 1-1-1-1.nip.io, I get IP 1.1.1.1.
- If I resolve 10-0-0-1.nip.io, I get 10.0.0.1
If I try to do the same at home on UPC Connect Box:
- If I resolve 1-1-1-1.nip.io, I get IP 1.1.1.1
- If I resolve 10-0-0-1.nip.io, I get no answer and then I get “connection timed out; no servers could be reached”
It means, something is blocking the DNS response.
I know, I could edit /etc/hosts or c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts, but (1) I don’t use Windows, (2) I had to edit the names on every device, (3) on Linux I could solve it globaly using dnsmasq, (4) for my home devices the IPs are fixed on DHCP server, but for other devices the IPs are dynamic and they get updated in cloudflare DNS when they change, (5) the most important, I cannot edit hosts file on my smartphone, where I need it.
Do you (or anyone else) have the possibility to test this issue behind Connect Box and behind another UPC device (modem) to be sure, if the filtering happens only on my Connect Box or on any other Sunrise/UPC Firewall on the way?
Thank you.
Regards,
Robert.
