Internet via Horizon or Ubee ?

I need help!

I used to have from cablecom the internet (via Ubee modem, and connected with the Apple AirPort as router) and TV, but not the Horizon. Since some months I added in the contract the trio: Internet-100, TV and phone with the Horizon.

However, the internet and phone only function via the Ubee modem. I called cablecom support, but this was tottaly useless: 3 “experts” talked to me, but none could answer my simple questions, i.e.:

1) If all the trio (internet, TV and phone) would be activated in the Horizon, the internet speed would be better or the same? (by the way, internet speed test never shows the 100 Mbits/s that I had purchased! Always very low, about max 30 Mbits/s).

2) With the trio via Horizon, can I still use the Apple AirPort as wifi router? (I use it also as back-up harddisk).

3) How to activate the Horizon for the trio? And if the results are not good, can I come back to the modem?

Does anyone can help me?

I myself don’t have the Horizon, but when I remember right you have to switch the WLAN off in the WebInterface of the Horizon. Switching it off via TV-Interface seemed to last only until the next restart of the box.

Many thanks for your answer. It has really helped. I will follow your advice and maintain the internet and the phone via the modem, and continuing to use the Apple AirPort as router.

Just another short one: How can I diconnect the WIFI function on the Horizon, as a strong signal is always present?

To your questions

1) The Horizon isn’t a general solution for internet problems. It may or maybe no better with the horizon. Are you measuring via a Ethernet-Cable or are you connected with wireless?

2) You can still use your Airport as Wireless Access-Point. But you can’t deactivate the routing function in the Horzion, you would do a “double NAT”, which may lead to problems.

3) You yourself can’t activate anything. You’ve to call the Support and ask them to provision everything onto you Horizon. If I were you, I would keep your modem. If you still have performance problems even if you’are connected via Ethernetcable (no wireless connection), then you should also contact the support to ask for help with your speed problem.
