Dear community
I would like to access my files and general network remotely. My intended way of achieving this is to use wireguard via PiVPN on a Raspberry Pi and port forwarding.
I have set up the PiVPN Server on the pi, and followed tutorials closely without issue. I created a port forwarding rule in my Internet Box (UDP, internal address being my local static IP assigned via the DHCP on the Box) , and set up wireguard on my mobile phone as client via QR code. I use a free DynDNS for address resolution which is reflected in the config files and can be reached and resolved as tested.
But it does not work. The connection seems to not reach my network from my phone (obv. on cellular data). I followed the extensive PiVPN trouble shooting guide and could confirm everything works, but no packets reach the Pi. I also tried a generic web tool to reach the open port, but it could not find it.
That leads me to 2 possible reasons:
- There is a firewall setting that I am not aware of. So despite the port fowarding, the port is not open yet. Tho I have tried to create a firewall exception on the Box, without any result.
- It’s a CGNAT/IPv6 issue, as has been the cause of struggle for many other users trying to get a VPN working.
Can anyone help out here?
(My next step is to try tailscale, as this should work even if either of the above were true. But I would prefer to get wireguard working)
Thanks for your help!
