Can someone help me - I have a connect box and I don’t use wifi only 4 Ethernet ports. 1 for TV and the other 3 for apple devices. The problem is that only 3 ports seem to be able to be activated at any one time I can’t get a fourth to activate. It seems to not allocate IP address to which ever device it finds last. This is sooooo frustrating I would assume as the box has 4 ports all 4 should work.

karenb You have your modem in bridge mode. Here you are assigned a maximum of 3 public IPs, which means that the 4th LAN port on the modem is not active.

If you need more LAN ports, please use your own router for its LAN port or purchase a LAN switch for more ports after the modem.

Thank you. Can you please recommend which type of router or switch I would need to buy which would be compatible with this modem and allow me to have access to 6 ports (that’s the number of devices I have that need to connect to the internet) without the need to reboot the modem every time I need to access a port over an above the 3 allocated on the modem.

karenb As a telecommunications provider, we do not want to commit to a model here. Maybe the community can tell from experience which switches are good and have 6 ports.

Personally, and this is my opinion, I have this device at home which works very well.

Hi Daniele,

I tried to reply to this yesterday but not sure if I sent it through correctly. I purchased a switch (non managed as this was the variety that was recommended for home use and non technical people like me. I installed it all yesterday and removed the connection to the 4th port and put all additional devices onto the switch. Unfortunately, I have exactly the same issue. Only I device seems to be working on the switch the other devices have the same message if I look under the network setting ie that the router is self assigned and can not connect to the internet.

Is there some setting or something additional that I need to do to activate the additional ports so that they get a router setting.
