Since two days I’ve got a real issue with my setup at home and I assume, that the last Update of the Giga Box is the issue.
Let’s start at the beginning.
One month ago, I’ve started having outages of my internet connection for around 1h, several times a week. After many calls with UPC Support, I’ve managed to get a replacement of the Giga Box, so far so fine, this resolved the issue for me for around a month. So the box is relatively new.
Since yesterday morning, I’ve got a strange issue, that I only have internet acces, if I’m directly connected to the Box.
I’ve tested it in Brige Mode and in Router Mode, with the same results.
My setup normaly looks like this:
- Giga Box
- In Managed Switch, where a port has vlan tagging for the WAN vlan
- Out managed switch, where a port has all vlans assigned
- Ethernet port of my opensense where I have multiple virtual interfaces on one port, including the WAN interface
My firewall gets the IP address, has a traffic for around 2-5s, then the traffic stopps and until I reconnect, I have no internet access. After reconnection, it’s the same again, 5s then finito.
I’ve got the same behavior if I use the Box in Router Mode as my gateway, connected to a switch. The clients get their IPs and have no internet access.
But if I plug a client directly to the box, everything is fine.
I can access the box interface, so also from the connectivity side, everything should be fine.
I’ve already resetted (push reset for 30s) the box many times and rebooted everything connected.
Also the switch was replaced as test, with the same result.
In my opinion, the last update of the box had some very suboptimal side effects.
But frustratingly, I’ve already called 4 times UPC support and as there is 1 szenario where my internet works, they told me, that I’m at fault.
With the last guy on the phone, I was able to at least have it looked up from the second level and now am waiting for a feedback.
Have you ever had issues like this?
As workaround I’ve already bought a new firewall with multiple ports, in the hope, that this maybe resolves my issue.
Just wondering, if you have any good advise how to proceed with this.

- Standard specifixation comoliant: DOCSIS 3.1
- Hardware version: 11
- Software version: AR01.04.055.06.07_040722_7245.SIP.10.LG.X1
- Network access: Allowed
