i am opening this thread as i am just about to throw both chromecast and the sunrise equipment off the window.

to be fair, I never had a problem with my chromecast before but the sunrise configuration seems to be a major disaster so far.

Apparently to have the chromecast working you need to disable AP isolation among other things, but in the configuration of the sunrise box there is no such thing as access point isolation, or client isolation or anything similar. In fact there is only DLNS but that doesnt seem to sort out the problem.

I cannot connect chromecast via google home on the main internet connection either on 2.4ghz or 5ghz, or combined mode, i can only connect on the guest wifi network and that is on channel 1 only basis 2.4 ghz and pretty much random. I basically have to reset to factory settings every time i want to use chromecast and hope it works.

Is there anybody from support in here that has a solution? Also considering how much the sunrise box has proven itself useless so far for the sole purpose i need it, can i replace it with another router like TP Link that has such settings i can use?

Did anybody have similar issues with chromecast in the past?

I found this information on the Internet. Can you open the ports once on your modem?

TCP ports 8008-8009 and UDP ports 32768-61000 are required for Google Home app on iOS and to cast and screen share from Chrome in Windows.

Additionally TCP port 8443 is required for the Google Home app on Android, otherwise the device does not show up and so screen mirroring from Android using chromecast will not work.

update

after calling the sunrise support today on my own initiative, i basically spoke to a person that had no idea what chromecast is..in the activation department of a tech company.

i am getting a TP link to reroute traffic through a router i can actually setup as i want and if that doesnt work i think i will cancel my sunrise and move on somewhere else. used chromecast with swisscom just ten days ago and it worked just fine.

I do not have it setup.

I understand i have to do it in the port forwarding section of the setting but i have no idea what to insert in order to crate the rule. can you please enlighten me?

ilias I will try to explain the settings to you.

Rule 1 for TCP Port 8008-8009
Enter in field 1 this: Port 8008
Select this in field 2: TCP
Enter nothing in field 3
Enter in field 4 this: 8008-8009
Enter in field 5 this: (the IP address of your Chromecast which starts with 192.168.)
In field 6 enter this: 8008-8009

Rule 2 for TCP Port 8443
Enter in field 1 this: Port 8443
Select this in field 2: TCP
Enter nothing in field 3
Enter in field 4 this: 8443
Enter in field 5 this: (the IP address of your Chromecast which starts with 192.168.)
In field 6 enter this: 8443

Please test it now. If it does not work, create a third rule.

Rule 3 for UDP port 32768-61000
Enter in field 1 this: Port 32768
Select this in field 2: UDP
Enter nothing in field 3
Enter in field 4 this: 32768-61000
Enter in field 5 this: (the IP address of your Chromecast which starts with 192.168.)
In field 6 enter this: 32768-61000

Hi Daniel

I tried this solution. It doesnt work.

The chromecast is connecting to the internet. It occasionally communicates with the phone and other devices but then that connection disappears even though they are all connected on the same network. I just randomly made it work twice and then it doesn’t

Also, the chromecast can’t even connect to the mother network even via ethernet cable. It can only connect to the guest network, which is silly.

ilias Is the Chromecast in the connection list on the modem (check Admin panel of connected devices)? If so, can you please assign a fixed internal IP to it?

A story..

The chromcast has always worked on the Sunrise router of my installation without opening any particular ports.

One day it didn’t work anymore. I reset the chromcast and scoured the router menus to figure it out, to no avail.

My last track was to deactivate the Sunrise option: surf protect home.

Sunrise gave it to me on occasion.

My chromcast has now worked again!

Maybe that will help you.

Thanks but I just changed the sunrise router to a TP-Link one and everything works just fine and Is way for agile

It’s a 50$ problem free solution, highly recommended
