Hello,
anybody having the same issue?
Last week, after a technician came to install fiber in my home and successfully tested connectivity with a “near perfect link quality” evaluation, I activated the Internet Box Fiber.
My LAN setup is MacBook Pro 16″ 2019 -> OWC Thunderbolt Pro Dock (PCIe 40 Gbps Thunderbolt 3 link to Dock’s 10 Gbps Ethernet port) -> CAT 6a Ethernet Cable -> Internet Box Fiber 10 Gbps (LAN 4) port.
On the hardware (NIC) side, 10Gbase-T link is successfully negotiated and is solid (no drops at all).
I performed several speed tests at different hours and to different servers using both Ookla’s Speed Test and CNLAB’s one.
Result is always the same: Download around 1090 Mbps, Upload a bit over 1100 Mbps, ping 7..15 ms.
It is just like a “bandwidth cap” is reached, no way to get better results.
I have tried to bypass my home’s ethernet cabling by connecting directly my Mac & Dock to the Internet Box Fiber using original Sunrise provided CAT 6a cable only, but no change at all.
Also tried to set MTU to Jumbo Frame (9000), but there is no way to change this in Internet Box Fiber’s GUI and no change anyway.
Downgrading link speed to 5 Gbps and 2.5 Gbps does not improve the results as well.
It looks like in my area (Locarno/Muralto, Ticino) Sunrise fiber’s real bandwidth is somehow limited. I saw in another discussion that a user in Zürich is able to reach 7.5..8 Gbps Up/Down, something I was expecting as well.
Is there any way to fix this? Will the real bandwidth in my area improved in the future?
Thanks a lot for any hint…
Regards,
