I received a few days ago notifying me that my internet speed was getting upgraded to 100 Mbps. The letter was a nice touch, but I’m wondering if I’ll ever see any of that speed. I was also upgraded to 50 Mbps a few years ago, but the actual speed of the connection didn’t improve. I originally signed up for 20 Mbps about 5 years ago, and in practice that’s still the speed I get today.
I realize I’m never going to get the full 100 Mbps, and that the available bandwidth changes throughout the day, so I tested the speed of my connection once an hour for 24 hours. The maximum speed I got was 24 Mbps, and the average was 10 (full results at http://testmy.net/compID/77711366499, tested from a cabled connection in Geneva 1201).
Cablecom, if you tell me you’re going to give me 100 Mbps, please at least make sure I can get half of that speed. Don’t make promises you can’t keep, and please stop treating your customers like idiots.
