TV Box Running Slow

I have been having issues with my UPC TV Box. Approximately every two weeks the box suddenly starts running very slowly and takes several minutes to turn on. Once it turns on certain actions such as changing the channel take several minutes before the box executes to command.

When these symptoms show I have been performing a hard reset of the box (pressing the - and main button on the front of the box while turning on), which returns the box to normal functionality for a while. Having to constantly perform a hard reset of the box is inconvenient.

Are you able to recommend steps to take to fix the box permanently? This has been going on for several months now.

Can you please tell us how exactly you connected the UPC TV Box to the Internet? I assume it’s all connected to your Ubiquiti device?

Daniele_Sunrise Hi Daniele,

The UPC TV Box is connected via ethernet cable into my AmpliFi router. The AmpliFi is then connected to the original UPC router which is connected to the wall socket. There is also a Pi-hole on the network, in case that is relevant.

swissandrew Since you are already using your own router, don’t you want to put the modem in bridge mode so you only have your own router acting as a firewall? The way you have it now, you are running a double NAT, which can cause problems.

If you want to activate the bridge mode, I have to change your modem to IPv4. For this it is sufficient that you let us know with an answer whether you want this.

Yes, we can try this. Would this be something that would cause a delayed slowdown of the TV? There are no other internet issues when the TV isn’t functioning correctly.

swissandrew If you have activated the bridge mode, you have to release the port 2002 for the internal IP of the UPC TV box, so that the box can communicate with our server. It is also important that the UPC TV Box is connected directly via LAN cable from your router. No other devices in between like hub, switches, powerline adapters, etc.

We have made the changeover to IPv4, which will be completed in 30 minutes. Restart your modem afterwards. If you have problems, reset your modem. Press the reset button on the back of the modem with a pointed object for at least 25 seconds. Then please try again.

Daniele_Sunrise Is it essential that the UPC TV Box is connected directly to the router? They are in different parts of the house so it’s not feasible to connect them without going through a switch.

swissandrew You can also put a switch in between. However, all devices that are connected in between are possible sources of error. Therefore my tip is to connect it directly.
