Moustache alarm in the Community team. We are supporting the global charity committed to men’s health issues. No actual facial hair will be involved, however. Instead, we are taking part in the “Move” campaign.
The Movember (moustache and November) Foundation is a global charity that raises money for over 1,000 programmes focusing on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health and physical inactivity among men. Detailed information is available from Movember itself.
upc cablecom is participating with various teams and the company will double the total amount raised at the end of the month. It goes without saying that the Community is also getting involved. However: facial hair is difficult for the women in our team and we men have chosen to voluntarily do without.
The “Move” challenge was introduced this year, primarily so that the women (“Mo Sistas”) can also take part in Movember. The idea is to move more in November than you would normally. Of course, we will be posting regular updates and exclusive fitness reviews on the blog. We have set the following goals for ourselves:
“My goal is to take the stairs every time! Lifts are not allowed. :-)”
“I am going to be doing workout moves to a different music video every day.”
“I will be avoiding the lift in the office. I don’t want to get out of the train one stop earlier. That would mean walking from Oerlikon to Wallisellen every morning! ;-)”
“My target is to do 50 press ups every day. Come rain, snow or storm!”
“I will be giving the bus a miss every evening. Instead of standing like a sardine in a tin, I will be walking through the dark. And depending on how lazy I am about shaving, I may even grow a moustache as well. ;-)”
You can see our fundraising progress on our team page. We are also turning the entire thing into a competition. Ultimately, we want to be at the top of the donation league table by the end of the month.
You can register via the Movember website and take part yourself. Of course, you are also welcome to join our team. As long as you grow a moustache or move more every day. ;-)
If you would like to donate, we would of course also be very happy. A thank you in baked form is already planned. More information about this will follow in the coming days.
