No internet output over ethernet in the fuse box of my rented apartment

Hi All,

I’m pretty new to living in a rented apartment and working with fuse boxes. Until now, i’ve used the GIGA Connect Box with the fiber cables for all my home network traffic. As my apartment has multiple RJ45 sockets pre-installed, I would love to use them but the GIGA Box does not fit into my fuse box, where the distribution socket is placed.

To fix this, I’ve bought myself now the Ubiquiti USG: UniFi Security Gateway. The problem now is that the Router does not receive any data through the RJ45 sockets.

Is this maybe a carrier or an apartment issue? Or can I only use the fiber connection for my UPC traffic?
Maybe I’m also just a too big network noob 🙂

doemezh You have only one network socket with 2 LAN ports on the picture. I assume that one LAN port is the feed and the other port is the output.

You connect your modem to a TV socket in the apartment. There you may have a LAN port next to it. You use this as the feed. In the box in the wall you take off the LAN cable from a LAN connection and feed in your Unify device, from there it goes out again with LAN cable.

Here you have the challenge that you can’t feed anything from the box in the wall, because both LAN holes are occupied. So you would have to extend your patch bay and install more LAN sockets. Whether this is worth it, that’s up to you.

Might the problem be the Coax socket?… Used it until now with the Giga Box. If so, an adapter to rj45 should work maybe?
