In June 2020, the QR bill was introduced in Switzerland. The new QR bill will replace the current payment slips throughout Switzerland by September 2022. The bill with QR code makes it easier to issue and pay bills. The first group of customers will receive the new QR bill from UPC from July 2021. The changeover will be rolled out gradually to all customers by June 2022.
What is a QR bill?
The QR bill is the basis for automated payment transactions. This is to be introduced by all billers throughout Switzerland by 2022 and replaces the red and orange payment slip. The QR bill contains all payment information in the QR code.
Like the previous payment slips, the QR bill consists of a receipt (1) and a payment section (2). The QR code (3) in the middle of the payment section contains all the information that can also be seen on the invoice in text form (4).
Advantages of the QR invoice
- Quick and easy payment by scanning (e.g. via e-banking/via app)
- All payment information is integrated in the code
- Predefined amount can be adjusted after scanning if desired
- Fewer errors during scanning, as manual effort is reduced
- Payments can be made digitally, by payment order or at postal branches
Payment as before
Bill recipients can pay QR bills digitally via e-banking. The QR code can be conveniently scanned. The previous payment channels at Swiss Post and banks, such as counters, bill machines and payment orders by envelope, will remain as before.
Important:
Electronic payment templates in e-banking or standing orders must be re-entered once after receipt of the first QR bill, as the bill details change.
Further information on payment via QR-bill can be found here (online from July 6). An explanatory video from SIX can be consulted here.
