BBC1 and BBC1 HD aren’t exactly the same, unfortunately.
The HD channel broadcasts the same content throughout the UK. The SD channel often has local programmes; most typically the news.
If you watch BBC1 HD after the main news when the local news comes on, the channel in effect turns off and you need to switch to the SD channel to continue watching.
