“Makes every moment epic”
Focus on the Samsung S21 series
Mutlu Bütüner (UPC): Last fall, Apple surprised us with its unusual product launch dates, and now Samsung is doing the same at the start of the year. Is there a particular reason why the new S series is already being presented in January?
Tizian Vogelhuber (Samsung): With the start of a new year - after a particularly challenging 2020 globally - we have noticed that the variety of demands consumers have for their mobile devices has grown. Users want - and deserve - the freedom to choose a device and experience that is tailored to them. People are spending more time than ever on their phones, which have quickly become indispensable tools. We’ve accelerated our innovation so consumers can benefit now. That’s why we’re launching the Galaxy S21 earlier. This is a smartphone series designed for this moment and beyond.
Mutlu Bütüner (UPC): Personally, I found the switch from the Galaxy S10 to the S20 Ultra a quantum leap. The S20 Ultra set new standards. What is the situation with the S21 Ultra?
Tizian Vogelhuber (Samsung): The camera has been seamlessly integrated into the frame for the first time in the Galaxy S21 Ultra and its color has been adapted to the new matte colors. This not only looks good in terms of design, but also protects the camera. Of course, there is a lot hidden behind this new packaging: A new camera to enjoy even more freedom when taking pictures, improved stabilization that makes videos look even more professional, and Artificial Intelligence that supports us in everyday challenges! The whole thing is supported by our Exynos 2100 processor and an enduring battery.
Mutlu Bütüner (UPC): Many manufacturers keep reporting new achievements in AI (artificial intelligence). What can the average consumer understand by this, or how is this reflected in the new S21 series?
Tizian Vogelhuber (Samsung): That’s right, artificial intelligence is increasingly in focus, and for good reason. Artificial intelligence is basically nothing more than a program that can recognize situations and react to them independently. This program learns all by itself and thus becomes better and better. Artificial intelligence thus supports us in our daily activities - from taking photos to the smart home, where the lights turn on automatically when I approach in my car. In the Galaxy S21 series, artificial intelligence can be seen in the camera app and the Single Take 2.0 function, for example. This analyzes shots of ten seconds, filters out the best snapshots, and then presents a selection of slow-motion videos, live-focus photos, or even shots with a Boomerang effect.
Mutlu Bütüner (UPC): HDR video recording with Dolby Vision is touted as “the” innovation by one of your competitors. How does the new Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra compare and what makes this device so unique?
Tizian Vogelhuber (Samsung): The camera of the Galaxy S21 Ultra offers many possibilities as well as new innovations that make the device stand out. For the first time, two telephoto lenses have been installed. These allow for a 10x optical zoom and with the 100x space zoom, even objects that would not be seen with the naked eye can be brought very close. The 108MP sensor has also been improved. It offers better HDR performance and is now supported by a laser auto-focus. Video mode also benefits from this equipment: All four lenses now support 4K recording and the Super Steady mode ensures that every video looks as if it has been professionally stabilized. There’s also the Directors View mode, which allows you to shoot with the four lenses at the same time. Thus, it is possible to check which angle looks best while filming. The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra makes every moment epic.
