As of 1 January 2021, UPC has acquired the cable networks in Glarus, Kaltbrunn and Weggis-Vitznau-Gersau. The total of around 13,000 households to which UPC services were previously available via partner networks will continue to be able to benefit from the UPC high-power portfolio, which will now be offered from a single source.
As a long-standing partner of Technische Betriebe Glarus (tb.glarus), Fernsehgenossenschaft Kaltbrunn (FGK) and Genossenschaft Antennenanlage Weggis-Vitznau-Gersau (GAWVG), UPC has taken over their cable networks as of 1 January 2021. The three acquisitions are the result of many years of consistent and successful co-operation. The total of around 13,000 connected households will continue to have access to UPC’s high-performance products and can benefit from the company’s innovative strength.
Gigabit Internet and an innovative TV experience
UPC’s extensive product range includes our fastest Internet with surfing speeds of 1 Gbit/s as well as an intelligent and user-friendly TV experience with the new UPC TV, which can be used at home via the UPC TV Box or on the go with the TV app for smartphones or tablets. In addition, UPC offers very attractive mobile offers with unlimited data, text messages and calls for Switzerland as well as for Europe.
Well equipped for the digital trends
The example of Technische Betriebe Glarus shows the advantages for the parties involved in the sale. Thus tb.glarus are convinced that the sale of their hybrid fibre coaxial (HFC) cable network to UPC is in the best interests of their customers. “The aim is to ensure that the communications infrastructure continues to meet the challenges and demands of digitalisation. UPC is ideally equipped for future digital trends and can also perfectly meet future customer needs,” says Martin Zopfi-Glarner, Managing Director of tb.glarus. Christophe Millet, Head of Partner Networks at UPC, is also convinced of the cable network takeover in Glarus and of the purchase of the other two cable networks: “These three acquisitions allow us to strengthen our presence as an infrastructure provider. In addition, we are pleased to be able to provide our innovative products and services to the residents at these locations, based on a future-proof infrastructure.”
