UPC Connect Box Wifi to Netgear

I purchased a Netgear Nighthawk AX80 Mesh Extender to improve the coverage around my house for wiFi connections, as I have a lot of metal stairs and this seems to interfere with the Wifi.
But also I wanted to connect the UPC TV Box via Ethernet to the extender.

It seems that the Netgear cannot connect to the UPC Connect box using the WPS button.
Tried several time but it can only connect using an ether net cable.
Is there something I can do to allow the UPC Connect box to identify the Netgear extender using the Wifi connection?

I guess it’s the AX8 and not 80?
Have you done the setup as described in the manual?

Press the WPS button on the extender until the WPS LED blinks.

Within two minutes, press the WPS button on your router. When the extender connects to your existing WiFi network, the WPS LED on the extender lights.

Yes it is the AX8 Netgear Nighthawk Mesh Extender.

Yes I followed the procedure every time. I noticed though that after I had to do a reset on the device
it immediately showed the wireless symbol and connections to 2.4 & 5.0 GHz even before I tried the WPS

It worked originally when I first bought it and used the Cell phone app to install but now when I try that
it tries to connect the Netgear.net but my iphone does not see it so cannot get it to join.

It does connect ok with an Ethernet cable to the connect box, but that not what I need it for.
I am running out of ideas.
After I used the app for installation from my iPhone I had a lot of problems with a certificate that Netgear installed but was Untrusted and I could not get my phone to work. Had to do a complete reset to fix things

Now i am relucktant to try it again from my iPhone for the installation and not the WPS.

I would start from the beginning. Put back the repeater to the standards by a factory reset. Mostly done by a paperclip in a small hole for a definite time on the back of the device.

Then give it another try with WPS.

Thanks for the feedback, I did however go back to the basics and start again, as you suggested.

This time i downloaded the app and waited for the Netgear.net to show up on my phone and then joined immediately.
this time everything went according to the steps without any problems.
So now is all working again correctly and I vow never to try messing about with it again to try to improve coverage etc.
